Most of my life is not lived on mountaintops or in crisis — it’s lived in the middle of ordinary Fridays, and I’ve been learning to bring those to God too.
Lord, this is not a dramatic day.
There is no emergency I can name, no crisis sharp enough to justify much urgency. The coffee is warm. The to-do list is manageable. The news is bad but familiar. And I find, standing here in the middle of a plain and unremarkable morning, that I am not sure what to ask for.
So I ask for this: that You would be present in the ordinary. That the hours I spend doing small work would not feel abandoned by You. That the conversations I have today about nothing in particular might carry some small kindness I don’t manufacture on my own.
Forgive me for treating prayer like a rescue call — something I reach for only when things go wrong. You are not only the God of the emergencies. You are here in the grocery run and the unanswered email and the slow afternoon.
Teach me to find You there.
Amen.
