1) We need ritual to help us deal with the baggage life has handed us to carry. Church gives us a framework and words to understand life around us.
2) We need community. We tend to think unpleasant answers aren’t true. We tell ourselves they can’t be. They are. How do we come to terms with life’s unpleasantness? We do so by telling our stories and listening to the stories of others. We bear our lives before God (and each other) in the midst of our brokenness.
3) We need to be in a place where the Word shapes our words. Words shape reality. We have been constituted by the ultimate Word, Jesus of Nazareth. Will we bristle at the word or let it shape us as people who liberate instead of subjugate?
